Turfan

Turfan is a government district in the center of the Uigurish autonomous region Xinjiang, in the western part of the People’s Republic of China. It is located in a valley of the eastern foothills of the Tianshan Mountains («Turfan Valley»), At its deepest place, on the shore of the Aydingkol Lake, the Turfan basin is 154.50 meters below sea level. After the Dead Sea, this is the earth’s second deepest valley.
